The waves were small yet contestable Memorial Day weekend with a bit of wet weather that ended the event a little early on Sunday afternoon. North and South locations were working, which allowed the event to get underway to make up for lost time. Finals were held on Monday and it turned out to be a beautiful warm afternoon with small 2-3 foot waves. The Swell had good shape & lines were peeling by Steel Pier 1st Street Jetty.
NOSERIDING FINALISTS:
1st place: Kevin Penn (Carolina Beach, N.Carolina) 2nd place: Michael Melichiorre (Virginia Beach,Virginia) 3rd place: Austin Hollingshead (Melbourne Florida) 4th place: Evan Micele (Virginia Beach, Virginia) Waves during finals were contestable, consistent and everyone met their wave count quota. North Carolina resident and up & coming young standout Kevin Penn had patience, good wave selection and plenty of talent leading him to an impressive win over his older counterparts.
Another standout during the Longboard Pro was Virginia beach surfing veteran Mikey Melichorre. M&M had a perfect 10 scoring wave in the finals which led him to a first place for the Steel Pier Classic. He then continued on into the Noseriding finals as his talented footwork and knowledge of the local break placed him with a very impressive 2nd place finish.

Congrats to all of the participants that competed for 3-days in Virginia Beach, Virginia. We are super stoked with the outcome during the second stop of the Guy Takayama Pro/Am Series. We would like to thank our wonderful hosts from the Steel Pier Classic and the Knights whose hospitality is off the charts! We can’t wait for our return in 2018. Now we are off to the third and final leg of the G.T. Pro/Am in Oceanside, California August 11-13 at Oceanside Pier.
